100th CLIENT FOR INTRALINK'S SURROGATE SALES PROGRAM™ PDF 인쇄 E-mail

10-year old program reaches second 50 inside three years

London, UK – 13th April, 2007 – Intralink Limited, the leading providers of business development services to technology companies targeting Japan and China, has signed its 100th client for its Surrogate Sales Program™. Intelliden Inc., a California-based provider of intelligent networking solutions that enable organisations to control, manage and scale their networks, has selected Intralink to spearhead its sales and marketing drive into the Japanese market.

Intralink launched its signature Surrogate Sales Program™ in Japan in 1997. The program provides high-tech companies immediate and low-risk access to the Japanese and Chinese markets through “local” western teams based in Tokyo, Shanghai and Shenzhen. This unusual approach has proven highly effective in delivering short-term revenues through a transparent and scalable route to market.

Among its first clients for the Surrogate Sales Program™ were Edinburgh-based KAL, a leading provider of multi-vendor ATM software; London-based BTG Plc, which develops and commercialises drugs and other technologies; and Manchester-based Hyperlast, a supplier of advanced polymers to the automotive industry. In its surrogate role for these companies, Intralink successfully concluded agreements with major Japanese corporations like Mazda, NTT, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Oki, Toshiba and NEC.

Another early participant in the program was San Diego-based DivX, Inc., whose popular video compression technology has been downloaded more than 200 million times. Underlining Intralink’s ability to work with different products across a range of market sectors, DivX’s president and CEO, Jordan Greenhall, said, “Intralink was able to pick up our business model and run with it quicker than anyone could have hoped for, and with limited hand holding. These guys proved an extremely valuable addition and one that had a direct impact on all of our business lines.”

After Intralink had secured deals with more than thirty Japanese CE customers, DivX recruited a dedicated team of technical support and account management staff – initially stationing them in Intralink’s Tokyo office – before breaking out to its own Japanese subsidiary. In September last year, the company listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, successfully raising more than $145 million.

“We believe that success in the Japanese and Chinese markets sends a very strong signal to potential investors,” said James Lawson, Intralink’s CEO. “It is no coincidence that, in the past six months, five of our surrogate clients have raised more than $300 million in a combination of initial public offerings and VC funding."

He added, “It took us seven years to reach our 50th surrogate client, but the second fifty has come in just three years. I think this is the strongest endorsement for our surrogate model and its consistent record for delivering results.”

Intralink is also working with a cross-section of surrogate clients in China. Lightstorm Networks, a provider of semiconductor solutions for high performance carrier-grade Ethernet networks, and S3 Group, which supplies software solutions for consumer home and mobile applications, are two companies that have recently selected the program as their preferred route to the Chinese market.

Greg Sutch, COO and General Manager of Intralink in China, said, “While we have a strong and growing portfolio of surrogate clients in China, there is a desire on the part of many companies to undertake pre-market studies – typically short-term commercial opportunity assessments – before committing to a market entry initiative. This contrasts with the Japanese market, where most of our clients know their target customers, even if they haven’t engaged them yet.”

Among some of other Intralink’s other surrogate clients in Japan and China are companies like QinetiQ, Frontier Silicon, Ecrio, Nujira, Ubiquisys, CMR Fuel Cells, ID Business Solutions, Wicom Communications, Plastic Logic, Movidia and Zeus Technology.
