26th February 2007 - In the first month of 2007, three clients of Asia business development specialists Intralink have announced significant new funding worth in excess of $140 million. Intralink provides a local presence to each of the high technology companies through its Surrogate Sales Program™ in Japan. Nujira, the company leading the development of advanced high efficiency power amplifier technology for the wireless industry, announced that it closed a $9.8 million Series B funding round. The round was co-led by current investors 3i and Amadeus Capital Partners, and included further investment by Cambridge Gateway Fund, Cambridge Capital Group and the Cambridge Angels. Tim Haynes, CEO of Nujira, said: “Intralink has significantly improved our chances of success with an existing prospect by taking the relationship to the next level and giving us and them a much clearer understanding of plans and expectations. In parallel, they have created significant traction and revenue-generating agreements with all of our target customers in Japan, and in the process raised Nujira’s profile among partners and investors.” Frontier Silicon, which supplies semiconductor solutions for mobile TV and digital audio products, announced that it secured a $32 million financing round led by new investor Mitsui Private Equity, additional new investors Cheyne Capital Management and Plutus Capital Management, and existing investors Apax Partners, GLG Partners, ACT Venture Capital, Alta Berkeley and BlueRun Ventures. The new investment will boost Frontier Silicon’s aggressive roadmap of semiconductor solutions for mobile TV and digital audio products. In the three years since Frontier Silicon partnered with Intralink to target the Japanese market, the company has secured customer orders from leading CE brands like Sharp, Sony, Denon, JVC, Onkyo, Sanyo, TEAC and Yamaha, as well as significant interest from module and automotive set makers. And Plastic Logic, a leading developer of plastic electronics, has completed a first closing of $100 million of equity finance led by Oak Investment Partners and Tudor Investment Corporation. Existing investors Amadeus, which led the seed financing of Plastic Logic, Intel Capital, Bank of America, BASF Venture Capital, Quest for Growth and Merifin Capital also participated. Plastic Logic, which has been represented in Japan by Intralink since 2005, will use the new funding to build the first factory to manufacture plastic electronics on a commercial scale. The facility will produce flexible active-matrix display modules for ‘take anywhere, read anywhere’ electronic reader products. Intralink CEO, James Lawson, said: “We would like to congratulate all three companies on their success to date. The ability to raise funding depends on having clear commercial commitment from world-class brand owners, and in this regard we will continue to drive their business in the key Japanese market.” About Plastic Logic: Plastic Logic is a leading developer of plastic electronics – a new technology for manufacturing (or printing) electronics. The Plastic Logic approach solves the critical issues in manufacturing high resolution transistor arrays on flexible plastic substrates by using a low temperature process without mask alignment that is scaleable for large area, high volume and low cost. The company was spun out of Cambridge University in 2000 to build on 10 years of research and has a team of more than 60 employees. About Nujira: Nujira is the leading supplier of high efficiency power amplifier technology and related intellectual property for the wireless communications industry. Nujira’s patented high power High Accuracy Tracking (HAT™) Modulators for WCDMA, CDMA2000, DVB and WiMAX power amplifiers enable infrastructure OEMs to design more power-efficient, smaller, and cheaper base stations to meet the increasingly demanding needs of operators worldwide. About Frontier Silicon: Frontier Silicon is the leading supplier of digital and RF integrated circuits and modules for mobile digital TV and digital audio products. Established in 2001 as a privately funded fabless semiconductor company, it has over 200 employees and is headquartered in Watford, England.
